Free EMI Calculator for Loans

Plan your borrowing with this free EMI Calculator. Enter the loan amount, annual interest rate and tenure to see your monthly installment, the total interest you will pay and a month-by-month amortization schedule. It works for home, car, personal and education loans in any currency.

What Is an EMI Calculator?

EMI stands for equated monthly installment. It is the fixed amount you pay your lender every month until a loan is fully repaid. Each EMI contains two parts: interest on the outstanding balance and a portion of the original principal. At the start of the loan most of the payment goes toward interest, and as the balance falls, more of each payment reduces the principal.

An EMI Calculator uses the standard reducing-balance formula: EMI = P × r × (1 + r)^n ÷ ((1 + r)^n − 1), where P is the loan amount, r is the monthly interest rate (the annual rate divided by 12 and by 100) and n is the number of monthly payments. If the interest rate is zero, the formula simplifies to the loan amount divided by the number of months, and this tool handles that case as well.

Beyond the single EMI figure, this EMI Calculator builds a complete amortization schedule. For every month you can see the payment, how much of it repays principal, how much is interest, and the balance that remains. The donut chart summarizes how much of your total payment is principal versus interest, which is often an eye-opening comparison.

How to Use the EMI Calculator

  1. Enter the loan amount, which is the principal you plan to borrow.
  2. Type the annual interest rate quoted by the lender, for example 9.5 for 9.5% per year.
  3. Enter the tenure and choose whether it is in years or months.
  4. Set the currency symbol if you want something other than a dollar sign, such as £, € or ₹.
  5. Review the monthly EMI, total interest and total payment in the summary cards.
  6. Scroll the amortization table to see each month’s split, or download it as a CSV file to open in a spreadsheet.

Benefits of Using an Online EMI Calculator

Knowing your EMI before you sign a loan agreement prevents unpleasant surprises. You can test different amounts, rates and tenures to find a payment that fits your monthly budget and compare offers from different lenders on equal terms.

The schedule shows the true cost of borrowing. A longer tenure lowers the monthly payment but usually increases total interest by a large margin, and seeing both numbers together makes the trade-off clear.

Another advantage is planning for early repayment. If you expect to pay extra in some months, you can use the schedule to see how much principal remains at any point and estimate how much interest an early payment would save. Because everything runs in your browser, you can experiment with as many scenarios as you like without sharing financial details with anyone.

Your privacy comes first. The EMI Calculator runs entirely in your web browser. Nothing you enter is sent to our servers, which keeps your data private and makes results appear instantly. See our Privacy Policy for details.

Common Use Cases for the EMI Calculator

  • Estimating home loan or mortgage payments
  • Checking the affordability of a car or motorbike loan
  • Planning personal loan or education loan repayment
  • Comparing offers from banks with different interest rates
  • Deciding how long a loan tenure should be
  • Exporting a repayment schedule for budgeting in a spreadsheet
  • Teaching students how compound interest and amortization work
  • Estimating the savings from a lower interest rate before refinancing

Tips for Getting the Best Results

  • Compare the total interest figure, not just the EMI, when choosing between tenures.
  • Try adding a little to your tenure and your rate to see how sensitive the payment is.
  • Remember that processing fees, insurance and taxes are not included in the calculation.
  • Keep the EMI below roughly a third of your monthly income if you want a comfortable buffer.
  • If your lender uses a floating rate, recalculate whenever the rate changes.

EMI Calculator FAQ

How is EMI calculated?

EMI = P × r × (1 + r)^n ÷ ((1 + r)^n − 1). Here P is the principal, r is the monthly interest rate and n is the number of monthly payments. The EMI Calculator applies this formula automatically.

Why is most of my early EMI interest?

Interest is charged on the outstanding balance. At the beginning the balance is at its highest, so interest takes a bigger share. As you repay principal, the interest part shrinks and the principal part grows.

Does this EMI Calculator include fees?

No. It covers principal and interest only. Processing fees, insurance, prepayment charges and taxes vary by lender and should be added separately.

Can I use it for a zero-interest loan?

Yes. When the rate is 0, the loan amount is simply divided equally across the months, and the schedule shows no interest.

Is the last payment different from the others?

The final row may differ by a few cents because the schedule clears the remaining balance exactly, which absorbs rounding differences.

Is the tool safe to use with real loan figures?

Yes. Calculations happen only in your browser, and nothing you enter is sent to a server or stored.
